Field prompts

Small prompts, to slip in.

Six prompts, one to a slip. Choose a day and a window, then slip a prompt into it. Nothing here is a timetable: a window only says what kind of time it is.

Why an open window is a prompt too

A retreat day fills itself easily. An open window is written into the book on purpose, so the gap is planned as carefully as the reading or the sketch: drawn as an empty circle, never as a missing one.

Six slips

  • Leave this time open

Write nothing in this window. If you remember it later, note only what you did not do.

In the book: Day 1 · Afternoon, Day 2 · Afternoon, Day 3 · Afternoon

  • A few pages

Read until one sentence stops you. Copy it here, then close the book.

In the book: Day 1 · Morning, Day 2 · Morning, Day 3 · Morning

  • Observe from a quiet spot

Sit in one place facing the horizon. Note three things that change while you watch.

In the book: Day 1 · Evening, Day 2 · Evening, Day 3 · Evening

  • A small sketch

Draw one thing twice: once quickly, once slowly. Keep both.

  • A note to keep

One line, written without stopping. Edit nothing until tomorrow.

  • Time at the table

Bring one question to the table and listen to every answer before giving yours.
