How to use the menu book

A laminated menu book on the web: read it like the one on the table, share a page by its link, print it again.

  1. Turning pages

Use ‹ and ›, a chapter tab on the top edge, a line in the contents, or swipe sideways across a page. ← and → turn while the book itself has focus (Tab to it), never as shortcuts for the whole page. Two pages show side by side from 1024px wide, one page below that. Without 3D a page changes at once.

  2. A link for every page

Each page has its own address: ?page= with a page from 1 to 10. On a wide screen it opens that page's spread (page 4 opens 3–4). Anything else — empty, 0, 11 or a word — opens the cover. Turning page by page replaces the address; a chapter tab adds a step, so Back returns to the chapter before. Try ?page=4, ?page=9 or ?page=99.

  3. The ribbon, and what is kept

Mark this page moves the one blue ribbon to the page you are reading (the left page of a spread); press it again to take the ribbon out. When the marked page is not open, “To p. 3 (marked)” takes you there. Only the ribbon's page is kept, in this browser's storage under collection-sanak-menu-v1 (at most 256 bytes): no account, no cookie, nothing sent. The page you are on lives in the address. If the browser refuses to store it, or what is stored cannot be read, the book shows no ribbon and says so; the menu still reads.

  4. The 3D book

Open the book in 3D loads a page curl drawn with WebGL (about 150 KiB of script, only after you choose it; nothing 3D is fetched before). Then drag a page from its outer edge: it curls under your pointer; release past the middle to turn, before it to put it back, or press Esc. Buttons, arrows and tabs play the same curl. The text you read is always the page itself: the canvas only draws the moving sheet. 3D is not kept between visits. It is not offered with reduced motion — switching reduced motion on closes it — and when WebGL is missing or fails the book stays as it is, with a message.

  5. List view and printing

List view shows every page in order, for screen readers, Find in page and large zoom; it is not kept. Print prints every page in order, one menu page per sheet, black on white, without controls, tabs, ribbon or gloss; “Rp —” and the fictional note are printed too. Without JavaScript the book is already a list.

  6. Where the study stops

Sanak and its dishes are made up; the names and descriptions are illustrative, not a real menu, and say nothing about halal status, nutrition or what is available. Prices are left blank on purpose: before real use the restaurant fills in its own dishes, prices and notes. Orders, payment, delivery and photographs are outside this study.
